Since July, 2006, the Mercantour National Park has offered a new interactive tool to help to transmit the knowledge and understanding of our natural heritage.
It confided this mission to Camineo, who took up the challenge to make a complete discovery guide within 3 months.
At first intended for a family public, the Mercantour guide allows the Mercantour National Park to be discovered in a simple and fun way. After having chosen his itinerary, the visitor is guided on the footpaths where it is impossible to lose his way. Thanks to its integrated GPS, the system makes access to the mountain easy for all walkers, even those with less experience.

From left to right: main menu, select a route, map, point of interest, topographic profile
Above all, this guide has proven to be valued for the discovery of the natural heritage : all the information combines to help keep one’s eyes open, raise the head or prick up one’s ear. When the walker comes near a point of interest, he is informed by his Pocket PC which shows and explains what other visitors cannot see or know : the revival of the forest visible on the old tree stumps, the natural defences of ant-hills, an avalanche corridor, etc.
Each break can be laced with multimedia animations, sound commentary or games : how nature was transformed by man by the building of a dam, why the wolf doesn’t use footbridges, etc. Finally, the curious walker can consult the base of knowledge which contains more than 250 species of animals and plants at any time: a real interactive and multimedia enCyclopédia ® (texts, pictures, soundtracks with animal cries).
The editorial accompaniment was produced with the cooperation of the company Rédicom : choice of the contents, writing of texts, itinerary scripts.
The innovation, along with the technical and editorial quality of the project were unanimously greeted by the French press : TF1, France 3, Canal+, M6, LCI, Europe 1, RTL, France Info, France Bleu, Libération, Nice Matin, Sciences et Vie Junior, Les Echos
